Adrian Pereira is the Executive Director and co-founder of North-South Initiative (NSI), a Human Rights and Social Justice orientated organisation based in Malaysia. NSI’s mission is to build a society that prioritises social justice.
At NSI, the social mobilisers team of migrant and refugee leaders work with marginalized communities to create competent and resilient community member. He started his activism from young age of 7 by following his parents on Church missions to distribute provisions to the poor in estates and towns in Kota Tinggi. This gave him the grace to journey with families throughout the cycle of overcoming poverty. He was later an active member of the Catholic Student Society (CSS) in Multimedia University Melaka while studying B.Eng in Electronics. After graduation, he worked at Pusat Komas and then went on to be an Asian Coordinator based in Manila for the International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS), a UN Accredited INGO setup in 1921. He was also introduced to Liberation Theology and Ecumenism here.
Adrian Pereira is also an Adjunct Professor with the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences & Leisure Management, Taylor’s University (Malaysia). He is also an External Panel Member of the University Ethics Committee (Human) under the Research Management Centre of Management and Science University (Malaysia). He is also a board member of CARAM Asia and an alumnus of the Diplomacy Training Program(DTP) of the University of New South Wales, Law Faculty. He is also an alumnus of the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) of the U.S. Department of State.
Adrian’s philosophy is to ensure all knowledge and wisdom gained over the years is shared with as many actors as possible, in Church (Ecumenical), Interfaith Networks and in secular circles.

Keane Shum is a Senior Protection Officer for UNHCR in Malaysia. Prior to coming to Malaysia, he was the Senior Policy Officer for the Myanmar Situation at the UNHCR Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, in Bangkok, Thailand. He has previously worked on mixed movements and refugee status determination for UNHCR, and before joining UNHCR was an associate with the law firm of Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett.

He is Head of the Secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia on Sustainable Development Goals (APPGM-SDG) since Oct 2019. He is President, Society for the Promotion of SDGs. He is also Senior Visiting Fellow, Social Policy and Care Economy, ISIS Malaysia He was Professor of public advocacy and Principal Research Fellow at the Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA-UKM) National University of Malaysia (UKM) (Sept 2008 to Dec 2019) and now Hon Professor He holds a PhD in sociology (1996) from Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom and a Chevening scholar (recipient of the British High Commissioners Award (1993-1996) He was honoured by the Malaysian King with the conferment of the Darjah Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) which carried the title ‘Datuk’ in June 2006. In 2017 he received the UN Day award for the role in promoting SDGs.
